The picture below is of some of the homemade lures i made. Couple of them i made out of a license plate, one i made out of a piece of copper and the one on the top is made out of a old spoon that i cut the handle off and painted.

These are some of the projects in studio arts. I have to say that out of all the projects that i made the bowls on the potters wheel was the hardest and the most aggravating because you have to have the clay on the wheel perfect in the center other wise once you would start pulling up the sides on the bowl then it would just start wobbling out of balance and fling into hundreds of pieces.
The project that took the longest is the one above, the ducks, because its four different pictures and their all different mediums. Over all i think they all turned out very well and i am glad i took the time to do it because you don't have this art class your whole life.

Art 2 -Clay Plate

This is a clay plate we were assigned to make in Art 2. My shape is a rectangle and I made it to look like it was a picture. I had put circular shapes that pop out on the corners and then used a fork to make the texture. I used a circular object to make the circles in the middle, then used a knife to make the lines connecting them. Getting the clay to not stick to the newspaper while I was rolling it out was a big challenge for me. I plan to use this plate to keep notes to myself so I won't forget about important things. This is my clay project from art 2. I made a circle shape and added spacey stuff to it. we used a rolling pin to get our clay base then used a knife to cut our shape. i plan on taking this to college with me so i can show all my new friends i will make.

Art 2 - White on Black

For this project, we were given a black sheet of paper and were told to draw with a white colored pencil. With the white pencil, we had to draw the white part that was on the pictures we got our ideas from. We would then have to shade the picture to make it more realistic. We could not outline which made it a little bit more difficult. Some people chose dark themes. I chose a mother nature type theme for mine. I have "Mother Nature" sleeping on the bottom of mine. Her hair than changes into water that flows down a river and under a bridge. In the background, there are mountains and trees to go with the theme. I think that all of them turned out really good. The hardest part was thinking in reverse, instead of the normal pencil on white paper. I really liked this project because of the challenge and the way it turned out. I am excited to see what people are going to think of all of them in the art show. -Kaitlyn G.

In this project we had to take take many black and white pictures and make them into a college.
The general idea of this project was to make it almost "dreamlike" while only drawing the highlights or the white parts of the pictures. We had to use several techniques such as shading. My picture was supposed to have an old dark room theme. I added things like an open door, vintage lighting, empty picture frames and a piano. The piano keys and the hand were by far the most difficult part of the project for me. This project took alot of time and planning for the whole class. My project turned out better than I thought it would be, I plan on entering it into the artshow. -Taryn F.

While making this project we had to use a white pencil we then had to make a rough draft or plan. I decided to do a mixture between heaven and hell. I decided to make it look as though the sun was melting the sky and God was watching. I found pictures from the internet and magazines to look off of to use as a idea of how i wanted it to go. This have probably been my favorite project and in my opinion my best project in both art 1 and 2. i will most definitly be entering it into the art show! :) - Alex K.

We were told to find a black and white photo of something then think of ideas of what to do, and i got a photo of a zebra and and wanted to make it into a waterfall but we couldn't draw the dark's so i drew the head of the zebra and put trees in it and put rocks in it. we used white pencils to make it. The project was based around white on black, they were formed from a collage that we did before actually completing the project.

I chose this collage because to me it represents all the evil in the world coming together with all the kindness and compassion. I feel that it is one of my best pieces in art 2 and I am very proud that I had a chance to complete this project.- Jensen J.

To start this project I had to think about different dreamlike, or surrealist, ideas. I came up with the idea of an unhuman character capturing and sucking souls in his dungeon. I came up with this idea thinking about some different movies with dreamlike qualities and somehow I came upon the topic of Harry Potter and the Dementors. The whispy, Soul-like qualities struck interest in me.
To go about this project I had to think very differently and backwards. We did a project similar to this last semester but it was dark on light, not light on dark. So it was kind of a large change between the two. However, I am very pleased with the outcome of the picture. I think it looks very nice and well done. - Lexi R.

Art 2 - Sculpture

This project was a very fun and interesting project. It has been one of my favorite art projects I've done in a while. My project is a cliff with people diving of of it. We made these projects out of clothes hangers and nylons. We formed the hanger to the shape we wanted and stretched the nylon over it and painted it with latex paints until it became hard. That is when we all decided what we wanted to make and start the process of making our sculpture. -Blaine S.

This was one of my favorite art projects i have done this semester. At first my project was just going to be a boring structure with photos i have taken, but Mrs. J challenged me to do a camera taking a picture. Loving the idea, i went right to work on it. i took my nylons and put on the wire i bent. I painted to base black and the wire part shades of yellow to red. This was a very fun project, i made this project more me by adding a camera strap that said camera, my favorite type of camera. -Derek B

This project was a very fun and unique project. It has been one of my favorite art projects I've done. My project is a city scene in the night time with a moon. I liked how my project turned out. The sculptures in my class were awesome! Everyone did such a great job and they were very different and unique. We made these projects out of clothes hangers and nylons. This is one of our projects we did in Art II. I liked this project the most because i thought is was cool to see the different things people's imagination came up with. This project is just nylon stretched over a bent clothes hanger. Then we could paint what ever we wanted on it. i chose to do a mountain scene at night because I thought that I could use a lot of different materials. I used cotton balls for the snow on the top of the mountain and glitter for the stars in the sky. I enjoyed this project a lot and i hope this semester we have more fun projects like this one. -Marley S

This project was a very fun project to do, I enjoyed it a lot. With this project we took a block of wood, put holes in the piece of wood and stuck a wire hanger in the holes. Then we bent the wire hanger however we wanted. Then we picked a theme that we wanted to do, my theme was earth to space. I used a variety of colors and objects to make my sculpture. I used styro foam balls for planets, and fake trees. -Marissa B

This is one of my most favorite projects I have done in any art class. What we did was we took a wooden block and drilled two holes in it. Than we sculpted a cloths hanger to the shape we wanted and than we glued it in. After that we put a nylon and we had to paint it with latex paint, than we got to decided what we wanted to make. At first i wanted to make a house, but after i clued the glass peices on , it just looked to much like a ghost to not make it it. Than i just went with the flow and put things that i thought went with it good ; such as grave stones, a gate that looked errie. I love using all different mediums. -Courtney Rose

This project was different from many of the art objects i have made before this class. At first i wanted to make a flytrap with teeth and a mouth wide open like it was waiting for a fly to land, but then i saw that the top looked more like a U.F.O. so i decided to make an alien taking a cow up from a field to probe. This project was very entertaining and i do hope we do more like this. -Andy Manis

This was a very fun project that i enjoyed doing. I was not sure on what i was going to do right away. The first thing i did was paint it. I had to blend a lot of blues together. I added some white to the edges of it. Once i got done painting I wanted to add sand to the bottom for the beach. When i was all done with this project i really liked how it turned out. I enjoyed doing this project and would like to do more like it. -Austin B.

This was my favorite project, because we got to design and create our very own sculpture. I chose to do a wave, because Ms. Johnson showed us sculpture from the past and I thought the wave looked really cool. I decided to put a little twist on my wave by adding a little surfer. I created her out of model magic, which is like not messy clay. I printed off pictures of a wave and based the look of my wave off of it. I love the way my wave and person turned out I think it looks really cool. I hope we do more sculptures in the future. -Bailey V.

I enjoyed doing this project because it was new to me. I loved painting on the nylon because it felt cool and was different than just normally painting on plain paper. I decided to sculpt a hot air balloon because I thought it was original and I like to find ideas that no one has thought of before. Making the shape of the figure was the hardest part and frustrated me a bit because it wasn't working the way i wanted it to. I used tissue paper on the balloon part of the sculpture, cotton balls for the clouds, and a weaved paper basket for the hot air balloon's basket. I would love to do this project a couple more times and see if I can have awesome ideas for more sculptures. -Chelsea M.

I liked doing this project because I liked the idea of it and that we got to do whatever we wanted to with it. I like the idea of Vegas. If i could redo this project I would choose to spend more time on painting it and getting different types of objects. I thought that the hardest part was trying to form the actual wire because it was hard to make it a way and then try to bend it another way. -Chancey.

6th Artist Reports

The students in 2nd Trimester 6th grade Art did research on different artists throughout history.

Once they did their research on the artist's background, they created a pop out card about their artist. They were required to paint a self portrait of their artist with watercolor paint, make a reproduction of an artwork of the artists and include born and died dates as well as more interesting facts about their artist in a visual form.

To finish the unit, students gave a presentation to their class on their artist. These cards will be displayed at the March 29th Art Show in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Art 1- clay whistles - 8th period

I recently finished a whistle of the Cheshire Cat off of Alice in Wonderland. It was glazed and i planed to put a ribbon around the hat like in the movie. It took me about a week and a half to create it. I got the idea because Alice in Wonderland is my favorite movie and the Cheshire Cat is equally creepy as he is cute. :) My whistle is pretty heavy but it works great. I am very proud of my project. It creeps me out every time i look at it because it just has that look to it but it also makes me laugh because i had such a fun time working on it.

I decided to make a frog because it was the closes thing to a circle and it was easy. It took me a week to make it but it took a little longer to make it whistle. I like to work with clay but i didn't like it when it didn't whistle all the time but for the most part this was a pretty good project. The hardest part about the project was trying to make all the legs the same size and shape. After all the parts were made, assembled, and fired we glazed them.

About a month ago we did a project with clay that was a little trying on my patients. We had to make a clay whistle and it had to whistle. I did my mine as a dinosaur. I enjoyed the project mostly except trying to keep it whistling and I had a leg on it that kept coming off. Other wise it was a very fun project. I plan on entering it in the Denver art show.

i just think about something then sketch it on a rough draft then I make a final draft. We used tempera paint with sponges. We had to try to mix colors together. We werent suppose to have plain colors. I think it was pretty good for the first time.

I have never done a painting like this it is kind of fun, but it is also changing because you have to mix colors to the right shadow and hue. you couldn't have the same color right next to the other, and you couldn't have plain colors we had to mix them with the other colors.

The painting I chose is a pointalism painting. We had to use a sponge to paint on dots on the paper. We had to use no solid colors and I thought it was very fun and interesting to do. At times it was challenging to decide what colors to blend together at certain places. It was hard for me to not have solid colors in places, but in others it was extremely easy.

Art 1 - 8th period - Printmaking Collage

Beautiful

This is my printmaking collage named Beautiful. In this painting i used stamps and colored pencils. we did these in class when Mrs. J was here. The first thing we learned was how to print. It looked easy at first but it was hard. You would first find some prints that repersent who you are. So I choose that stamps the sun, a turtle, and a fish. We practice on our stamps for a while and when we thought we were good at them we got our final copy. After we printed on the final copy it was time to color. This whole art work is about me. Most everything I like is in this painting. I love the sports softball and volleyball, and if you can see the lilly pads are the balls. I also love under the sea. I loved doing this collage and would like to do more.

This is my print of the night day and water and ground and a soldier. In my picture i put night day water and ground and i put a moon a sun a frog and fish to resemble it. I love watching war stuff and hunting. I love guns pretty much. For my technique i just stamped then blended colors together to draw the different scenes. It did not take too long but the hardest thing was getting a good clean stamp to stick. Blaine B

Art 1-Story People Sculpture

       As one of our projects we created story people, these are sculptures that come with a quotes that we must create on our own. To start the project off we had to create our quote.Then,we had to collect pieces of wood, the pieces together had to create a character. We used wood glue and rubber bands to secure the wood together. After the sculpture was built, we painted them and gave them their special details.
        My story person is a girl, the quote i made is on her skirt, it reads, " People who want to sing, always find a song..". Then to portray her singing, i gave her a microphone. The project itself is supposed to sort of abstract, so I decided not to put a face on my character. Then twisted and bent spare wire for her hair.
      This story people project wasn't hard, but, it was one of my favorite of the year. What I liked the most about it was, how everyone's turned out so different and unique. In fact I liked this project so much I have it hanging up in my room. Thanks for reading!

Art 1 - 4th period - Whistles

Why I choose a baby dragon, well I wanted to do an adult dragon with its mouth wide open and the wings billowing out. But I could not draw or find a dragon that looked like that. So I started to play around with different things. Then I happened to draw a baby dragon hatching from an egg, and I went with it.

How I made it was: first we had to make the whistle, which was really hard. I had to start over sixteen times before I could get it to work. Then next came the shell, which I put around the underside of the whistle. Then the head, wings, eyes, and the head shell (peace of shell on its head). After that we fired it in the kiln, glazed it, then fired it again.

Materials we used were clay, kiln, glaze, popcicle stick, rolling pin, and our hands.

For my whistle, I did a cow. I do not know why I chose a cow exactly. Maybe the reason is because cows are interesting animals, plus they are funny looking.

I started with a huge lump of clay. We were instructed to make a ball with that clay. Once I finished that, we had to cut that ball in half. After that was done, I hollowed out the center and then molded the ball back together. So after all that, I ended up with a hollowed out ball for my wind chamber. Next, I had to make a small, rectangular piece for the whistle part. That took a little while because I messed up a few times. Next came the air hole. That was the hardest part. You had to take a popsicle stick and poke a hole in the top and then another one through the whistle part. The reason why that part was so hard was because you had to poke it in a certain way. This took many people a long time in order to get a sound to come out of it. When I finally completed those parts, I started molding the cow. It did not take me long at all to complete that. When I was almost done, I decided to make a body with it.
I finished my cow, now all we had to do was put it in the kiln. When that was done, my cow had different colors on it. So I repainted it. Now my cow was perfect.

I created this project because I thought that it would be cool to do a chipmunk. I created the chipmunk with clay. First I had to make a ball that was big enough for the body and then I split that in half and then i cleaned out the center of both sides of the clay. Then I slipped and scored the outer edges of the clay and stuck them together. Next I made the whistle part and put that on it. I put the popcicle stick through the whistle part and made it go into the hole in the center of it. Then i made the hole for the air to come out when u blow in it. Next I made both of the arms and stuck them on. After that I put on the legs and it took a while to get the right angle of the legs. Once the clay part of it was done I glazed it by putting a brown coat on 2 times. Next part it went into the kiln. I used clay, water, knife, popcicle sticks, toothbrush.

ART One Artist Palette :) 4th Hour

For my blog entry I decided to choose to my art palette for what art project I will talk about. When I first started this project I thought it was dumb and worthless. Once I started to think about it I wanted to make my palette about Imagination and when I thought about it my mind exploded with ideas. I wanted to get everything onto my paper so fast, but I didn’t know where to start. I just put random things because that is what my mind and imagination comes up with. I am not ordinary I am original, different I don’t think like other people and that is how my art work is like no one else's. Random would be the word I would use for my art work and my life. See every second you make decisions. I am making decisions about what to type right now, but when I am doing art I don’t think I just do it. Anything in my mind ends up on the paper. If I am thinking about bananas that is what will be on the paper I can’t help it. On my palette I have water colors, crayon, thread, fabric, puzzle pieces, and sharpie. I tried to use all of the mediums I could just to show imagination, imagination is not just crayons or just painting it is everything together. Right now we are working on a "dot" project I am now searching for a picture to use for it. I think I might just find a picture that is like me, random. I use to try and be like everyone else I didn’t like it, so now I am myself and that is the life experience that shows in my work. That's just me and how I roll.

Art 1 - 8th period - Grid Drawings

This is a piece I shadd using regular pencils, dark pieces of lead, then paper towels and blending stumps to blend. This specific project I chose out of the pictures my cousin had taken in black and white. I had seen this soccer goal and ball when I saw him once and it stuck in my mind. I usually choose my inspiration pieces, or in this case my original version, according to my interest in the subject and how it relates to me personally.
The first reason for my choice this time was that it was my cousin's photo. I also knew that I loved how the background was unimportant; how the goal and soccer ball are both very clear, and standout. The other aspect of the picture I liked, that related to me personally, was the ice on the ground and the icicles on the net. This is because I know my cousin took this picture during the 2008 ice storm, which was a week-long roller coaster experience for me. I thoroughly enjoyed sketching and shading this project, even if it was tedious work.

The picture I did was of a mallard duck in the water that i found on the internet so I decided to redo it for my piece of art. It was all about shading so we used a shading pencil, blending stumps, and I used a eraser to highlight some of the picture. Over all I think I did a nice job on it and I had a lot of people telling me I did good on it too. It was hard to do at times but I liked the contrast on the final piece.

I shaded this rose using a normal pencil, graphite, a blending stump, and a piece of paper towel and eraser to blend it all together. I started out by putting a grid on the original picture and than drew one on the piece of paper I would be drawing on. This helped me enlarge my rose more accurately and get everything in its right spot. I than sketched it all out and started blending and shading. When I was done I went back with an eraser to make the highlights.
I chose a rose because I like flowers and it was a good challenge because of all the different dark and light areas. This has been my favorite piece of art so far this year!

This is a picture of a dodge viper I shaded using a pencil, eraser, blending stump, and paper towels. I used a grid to help draw out the outline of the car. After was done with the outline of the car I shaded it in. I chose the car because it is something I like and it would still be a challenge. I've gotten a lot of complements on it. I also thought I did a nice job on it. Kyle

The project I am telling about is my grid drawing project. I was assigned to choose a photograph from either the Internet or my house. I chose to look through old pictures at my house because I knew my sister's birthday was coming up and it would be thoughtful of me to make a piece of art for her. I found a photograph of us when we were little when she was 9 years old while I was 5 years old. This picture was when we got our hair dressed up at a beauty salon for her birthday party.

I used pencils and graphite blocks to draw out the image and used blending stumps and toilet paper to blend it all the way I wanted. I spent about two or three weeks working on this piece at school and in my own spare time. I thought it turned out great. It was a total surprise to her and she loved it. My sister is in college right now and my portrait of us is hanging on her dorm-room wall.

This is my grid drawing project. We had the option of whatever photo we wanted. I was on Google when I found this one. I chose this picture because I thought it was simple and really beautiful. I usually choose my pictures or subjects randomly, as long as they have some sort of personal connection to me.

I completed this project by first covering the original picture with a transparent grid and getting all of my measurements out. After that, I sketched the outlines of her dress, arms, and the bow. I used straight pencils and graphite blocks for the shading and outlines, and I used a blending stump and paper tissue for the blending of the edges and shadows. I absolutely love the outcome.

My parents were shocked and so proud of me when I brought this home! They're thinking of getting it framed? :)

For this drawing i took a picture and put a grid on it. the goal was to blow it up on to a larger page of paper while still having the right sizes. I choose this picture because I liked the range of dark and light. I also like what the picture stand for, how the people all come together in a harmony that they put in a picture. You must be careful to keep your lights and dark spaces clear. If you can put in as much detail as you can your picture will look way better then a simple pice.

I had a lot of fun on this picture. I used pencil and graphite to create this. Blending stumps and toilet paper paper help to soften the marks and make different shades of gray. There are different types of pencils they have some different hardness to the graphite block. The softer ones give you a darker streak then the harder ones that will be lighter. The graphite is very soft and will gibe you the darkest shade. It is good for shadows and dark areas.

Art 1 palettes

For my palette I decided on a quote that I think is really inspirational, "Don't tell me sky is the limit when there's footprints on the moon". I chose to splatter paint my background, because stars are everywhere not in order and I thought splattering would give it that effect. I used a toothbrush and flicked the bristles that had white and gold paint on it causing a star like look. I also made a rocket that gave the effect of coming from the moon. I made my rocket using paint pens. My planet was made from transparent paper.
I chose the quote because it has a good moral to always try harder then what you are already doing. My finished product look exactly like i wanted it to look. I enjoyed doing this project it was one of my favorites. It was a lot of fun to think of ideas to make a great piece of art. ~Bailey V.

This was our first project of the year. I enjoyed making this palette because we got to put whatever on the palette that we wanted to. It didn't have to be something exact and we could be very different. I really enjoyed combining things into each other. my favorite thing to use on this project was the metallic silver sharpie. I think it made certain areas really pop out and look different. I loved making the volcano that turned into a fish tank. This was by far one of my favorite projects this year! and I'd love doing more projects like this! :) -Alex K.

This palette was the first project we did in this class. I used paint, pastels, markers, crayons and magazine cutouts. I liked this project because it probably gave us the most freedom regarding materials and what not. There were hardly any limitations other than the fact that it had to be shaped like a palette. I chose the things i did because they represent me and my interests. It was kind of just random assortment of all-about-me objects. ---Jake Morrow

Art 1 - 4th period - Grid Drawings

I recently finished a piece of Art. It is a grid drawing of a lion. For this Art piece I had to find a picture online, I choose a picture of a Lion that was printed in black and white since that is what it would look like when it is finished. After that I took the picture and found a graph paper that fit to the small picture that I had. Then I took that scale
of the small picture and made it a larger scale so I cold transfer it onto a large sheet of paper. After that I had to draw a big grid on the large sheet of paper, so it made it easier to draw and get the correct detail.
After all the griding was over I had to start sketching out the head of the lion, once that was done I had to start shading. First I started with the head of the lion and worked out to the mane. I think that the shading of the mane was the hardest part because it had so much contrast. I had to erase, shade, and use blending tools to get the best shading for the mane.
My lion took a long time and hard work to do, but I really like it and to me it presents boldness, courage and bravery. Which sometimes I don't have, so by drawing the lion it pulled out my courage, bravery, and boldness.:)

I did this grid drawing, it is a picture of my favorite breed of dog, rottweiler. I've had an interest in rottweilers since I went to my aunts house and played with her two-hundred pound rottweiler. I started with a simple black and white rottweiler picture, then I put the picture onto a grid, when that was done I converted the grid onto a piece of paper, finally i copied the picture. I used several different shades of pencil, most was very dark, but I also used light pencil and even rubbed some led on my finger and then onto the drawing. When it was finished I put a border on it to complete the picture, it makes it look more professional and a lot nicer.

I finished a grid drawing recently. My picture is a corner back on the NFL football team the Green Bay Packers. A corner back is someone who guards the wide receiver so he can't catch the ball. During the time I was thinking about the Packers and he is my favorite player so I looked him up under google images and found a good picture of him in his defensive stance.
We made this by making a grid on a sheet of paper and increasing its size to make a bigger photo and I used an eraser, a blending stump, and a pencil to make this. It is black and white, and I used my blending skills to blend things together and make a good background, shadows, and picture. Also, to blend it a lot of the photo I just colored it in with a pencil and used a tissue and blended it so it would spread around. To get the line figure out of the picture I would use the blending stump over all of that and spread it again with a tissue, sometimes I used an eraser that was covered in led to spread it around too. I decided to make this photo because I love the Green Bay Packers, I watch them every time they play and cheer them on!

For our first project we had to do a grid drawing. The first thing we did was find a picture online. After we found the picture we drew the picture on a poster and the colored it in with pencil. The picture I picked was the Eiffle Tower and i picked this one because it is a birthday present for my mom. I thought this was a very good project because we could do something we wanted to do. I also liked that mine was a little difitcle. I thought it was cool to see how pictures could look so cool by colering with pencils.
My Eiffle Tower took a really long time to make. After i got done with it i thought it looked really cool. I picked the Eiffle Tower because my mom loves france and it is a wonderful building to see. My picture shows the difitculty and creatifty.

We recently were assigned to do a grid drawing, at first I didn't know what to draw. I thought of things I like, which I love dogs so I went to the computer and looked at different types of dogs. I found the one dog that I hope to own some day, which is a bulldog. I printed it off and put a clear plastic grid over top of it and taped it on. When I was done drawing this was my finished piece. 7th grade Chinese Calligraphy

Students in 7th Exploratory Art started out this unit writing the calligraphy symbol for the year of their birth according to the Chinese callender. Continuing to practice the form of each stroke students choose a word, name or saying to write and mount. Their final piece was to write a descriptive word or name on a rock. They sealed the lettering in with a spray on each rock so it will last longer.

Impressionist Portraits - Art 2

This is an impressionist portrait project that we did in class.

First we took a picture of ourselves, doing some sort of pose of our choice. We then put it on the computer, re-sized it and printed it off.

After that, we put the picture in a opaque projector so we could trace the outline of our bodies onto an separate sheet of paper.

Next, we ripped out color from magazines to fill in the design of ourselves.

These two pictures are of Jalen (blue shirt) and Jordyn (red shirt). Both of us enjoyed this project very much and are very pleased with our end results!

At first, I thought this project would be difficult and take a long time to get complete. When I started, I didn't know were to start. So I started with the focal point which was the lion, and then when I was done with that part (which took alot of details and erasing) I started on the 2nd piece which was the candle that brought the light to the walls and shadows the upper part of the wall.
All in all, I very much enjoyed making and seeing the project come to life.

This project was very challenging. It took me awhile to get used to drawing in the white parts, not the black like I would usually do when drawing on white paper. It was also very challenging to shade in all the shadows such as the shadows in the tree and in the hat. I was proud of the outcome of my work. This white on black was a really fun project. I had to erase many of times and fix mistakes.But over all it turned out better then I thought even having to change couple things along the way. I cant really say it was easy but it was fun just seeing how good it turned out.

This picture is a white shading project on black paper. I did an angel in the ocean by rocks in the shallow area. I liked this project, because you shade the colors in different shades to make a picture without outlining. This was a little difficult with the face and the shading. It was a fun project and it was a little challenge for me.

This project for me started out very difficult! Partially because all my life when I drew the part I shaded was the darker parts and to go from that to the total opposite was hard and at time frustrated me a little bit. But by the end I loved this project. I am very happy and satisfied with my end result. I would enjoy drawing another one of these types of pictures.

These silhouettes of 7th grade art students in the 2nd trimester group of students are unique to each individual. I hope they keep them and remember a time when they were young.To make these portraits, I first took photos of them in poses of their choice and added a filter to their photos so it would be easier for the students to trace the outline. The students listed words that they felt describe themselves and added those words inside the traced form. I think they had fun!

Seventh Grade art students from the 1st Trimester learn to enlarge and draw photos of themselves. I took photos of each student with their hand close to their face. The students could choose their pose and facial expressions. They then were required to add color and shading to their face. We talk about and viewed some Fauve style paintings and the color choices we have available to us as well. For some of them, it is tough to get away from choosing realistic colors. We always have to be open to new possibilities!

For this project, we made a one inch grid across our papers. After debating for a while on what I wanted to do I chose this card idea. I like mainly how it looks with the cards and the hand, and how the colors make it only slightly harder to see it than just plain solid all the way through.

This was a lamp shade from the sixties or seventies that I "updated." It was originally a tan color with fuzzy trim around the top where my black ribbon is now. I started off by painting the entire shade with white acrylic paint. I then tore the fuzzy trim off and spray painted the shade with pink and orange. I used black Sharpie markers to freehand the flower designs. I finished the piece by using a spray adhesive to attache the ribbon and hot glue to attache the bows on each side.

This is a whistle that I made. My ideas changed quite often during this project. I am very proud of my whistle because when i got it back after it got fired, it looked totally different than it looked before it went in. I took a risk and put a lime green base color and put random brush strokes of different colors to represent the fur. The whistle noise is also very strong. we made to whistle by making a ball of clay and hollowing it out. Then we added the mouth piece and stuck a hole through that. We then adjusted it to make the whistling noise. I am very happy how my seal whistle turned out.

I chose this peace of Art because the colors really looked beautiful. I used blue green and purple to make it look very dark outside. I tried to make the streets look as good as possible to try and make them look like a real street. I thought the blending of colors was pretty good looking. The gluing of the art was very fun because the glue was fun to wipe on the cardboard and them you would put white napkins on it to make it look cool. And that is why I chose this art project.

I decided to post my pop out art on the blog. We had to find a picture with 5 to 6 different layers. Then we made copies of the picture. Once we made the copies we had to start cutting out the layers. I decided to use the picture of me and my friends at homecoming. I used the background as one layer, balloons as another layer, the two girls in the center of the back row, the two outside girls and then the two girls in front. I found that cutting the picture with an exacto knife was the hardest part. I found this project as a small challenge but I very much enjoyed making it. We started off by using pages from old books and searched for words scattered throughout that created a saying. The saying that I found in my page was "Nostrils smother the air as if bricks tied the empty space." I chose this saying, because it had a really deep and artistic feel to it. My original idea for decorating my page was to build a 3-D nose with a brick base, but decided to go with the norm. I kept the page at it's normal size, ripped the edges and suronded them with bricks that i found in different magazines. I also cut the words out and used card board to make them pop out. to finish it up, I took tempra paint and watered it down; I used a brush and let the color run down the page.

The hardest part about painting on the fish was painting the scales, they were very time consuming. This project was inspired from a picture that Ms. J showed me. I knew I wanted to do a 3-D piece of some sort. I began by looking for styrofoam balls in a few stores. They were pretty expensive, so rather than spend a fortune, I bought rubber balls in the toy section. I started by using news print paper mache. I found several designs and pictures in a book that Ms. J provided, and I then used paper mache to place them on the larger balls. I went on to paint the rest of the balls with colors that balanced the piece out. I used a Sharpie to make my own designs on the painted ones and to finish it off, I used Mod Podge to create the shiny effect that the sculpture has. Although this was a very time consuming project, I enjoyed it alot and am pleased with the outcome! Here are two pictures: one of the sculpture in a working progress, and one of the final piece. In studio art I made a DC logo on card board. first I found A card board square. then I drew it out on the card board. Then I desided to put smaller logos inside the big dc logo. Chase D. (Freshmen) My simple Seurat dot painting with a Cherub on a wall. I found the base of the picture on the back of an issue of HM (hard Music) magazine, and changed to the bright clear blue sky in the back to a mixture of colors like a sunset.

I had many mistakes that I had to fix, but it turned out great and I love how it turned out.
Making the squares was quite confusing but I
managed. I thought the hardest part was the hat and face.

When this unit came up, I started by helping Ms. J recycle clay. I like working with my hands. I decided to make a fish off finding Nemo. Its a fish with a light, its mean and wants to eat Nemo. It was fun working with the clay. Andrew B.

This is a value drawing that i made from a picture my sister took some time back. the picture was a gray kitten sitting in a cement block with pink flowers and green leaves beneath it. this is the first time i have ever done a grid drawing as well as a value drawing. i found it became harder to shade because the kitten's coat color and cement were close to the same. I ended up making the cat slightly darker than the cement so you could see the difference. i learned that using a grid can really help you draw something because it breaks the picture down into little sections so you can work at it one piece at a time. I also found i very much enjoyed making a value drawing using a grid.

This painting is painted with acrylic paint. I painted it for my Grandma and Grandpa Hagemann. The car represents their first car they had together when they first got together. This is my first painting with acrylic paint and my first on a canvas. I enjoyed painting this for my grandparents. Amanda

This was the first grid drawing I did and I am very happy how it turned out. It was tougher getting all the ridges on the arms and head of my turtle. I really liked how the shell turned out and I am pretty sure that I will do one of these drawings again.

I decided to do my pencil drawing of a blues guitarist, because the roots of present day rock and metal music began with blues guitar riffs. I play guitar and one of the first things I learned was the 12 bar blues scale. I enjoyed doing this project, as I am not a big fan of painting, but I love to freehand draw. This assignment was really one of the first times I've ever really thought about shading while I was drawing, but thought it came out pretty good. Oz W.

I think that the hardest part was shadeing in the Rams correctly, but I still had fun drawing it. To complete this drawing I put a grid on the original picture, drew a grid on a 12 by 18 piece of paper, and enlarged the original picture. I might do something like this again but it wasn't my faveorite style.

After a short time in drawing it I wasn't excited to draw it. But i did. :)

So this is my picture and I guess it turned out OK.

I chose to draw this piece because i like drawing people and facial features. We used a grid on the original piece and made them larger on a bigger sheet of paper. I used shading and a little bit of texture on this. I shaded with a shading pencil and blending stump. I would love to do something like this again.

Ms. J gave a project where we could trade our art work with others. I did not want to trade because I did not want to give mine away. I like this project alot. In this project you could use any thing to make it.- John H.

I really liked this assignment I did alot of these for being gone and I liked them alot. This one was my favorite because I liked all the bright colors and the different shapes. My Favorite part about this assignment was to see all the different cards people could come up with. - Noah M.

I really enjoyed doing this project. Ms. Johnson gave us a wide variety of choices with this project. You could use colored pencils, paint, anything you wanted. My favorite part about this project was when we were all done we traded with each other. - LEVI W.

For this project we first had to get a small 2.5 by 3.5 piece of paper. Then we decided what we wanted to do to them. I wanted to use a sharpie. After everyone had theirs done we traded them. I like this project because i was easy for everyone to show their own style. - Alex B.

When I was given this project I was given the biggest canvas in the class. I decided to paint my barn. I first started with the clouds. I moved on to the grass mixing two different kinds of greens and a gold yellow. I started to paint my barn with red and gray. I took the most time with my tree. I mixed many different kinds of brown and green. The weeds under the tree was mixed with two tones of brown and white. I was planning to give this painting to my Grandma.

When given this project we had to choose a canvas size that we wanted to paint on. I wanted to do the smallest size which meant that I had to do two small canvases. I was browsing other artists paintings when I found paintings of these little "people" and I really wanted to recreate them. Since I was doing two I wanted them to look alike, but still be opposites when I was done. I used metallic paint for the swirls and then used the opposite color that the other painting had to paint the background. I really liked painting these and I can't wait to hang them up in my room.

For this project, we had to paint on canvas. I like it a lot better than painting on paper because if it streaks, it isn't as noticeable. The people I painted were Cody Austin and me. I like how the shading on the clothing turned out, but I am disappointed that the faces don't look more like ours. Maddie

When painting this, I tried to give it a more geometric theme. I was trying to make a painting that had looked like an Aztec design. I chose to make the two opposing colors in order to balance it and draw attention to the center, where the colors contrast the most. I'm very happy with the way it turned out. -Devon E.

This painting is something I had to do because I feel landscapes are my best subject. It had a few white spots that were hard to fill but evantually i got them covered. I am pretty happy with the way this painting turned out. - Sam S.

This canvas painting project was a lot of fun for me because I got to paint on something bigger then usual. What I decided to paint was a collage of different things from Las Vegas. I used a lot of metallic paints to show the sparkle of the lights in Las Vegas. My favorite part of the painting would have to be the dice because they have a very 3D look to them and I love the shading. The hardest part of this painting was painting the background because it took so much paint and it was hard to cover up the white spots. But in the end I am very happy with this painting. - Danielle F.

For this assignment we got to pick a photo of our choice and transfer it to the canvas. For mine I chose to paint the church and the San Jose Mission in San Jose, Texas. It was so pretty I just couldn't resist. I think it turned out very wonderful. I wish the garden would have turned out a bit different but, oh well. I call this Le Frog MonJet. It is a french rain forest frog . I used these colors because they are bold and beautiful. Let me point out that there are currently no rain forests in france, but someday there will be and rest assured, this frog will be in it. I hope you enjoy this canvas painting. -HailieAnn Marie M.

Studio Art - Dine Inspiration

This is an abstract painting I did on canvas. It started out as a landscape painting and it just wasn't looking the way I wanted it to. Then my teacher showed me some pictures of some abstract paintings and I had always been interested in it so I decided to give it a try. When I got done it was very colorful but just kind of plain. It needed something. My teacher then showed me some work by an artist named Jim Dine, who would put hearts in alot of his painting. Sometimes you could see them and sometimes they would blend in a little. So I put a heart in my painting. I didn't want it to be solid so I just used a stencil and kind of just brushed it on, making a stripe look. I really like this painting. Keirston J.

Crafts- Tin Art

This was an easy project for me to do. It is a motorcycle. I got my came up with the idea because i like motorcycles. I got all the supplies from the art room. Blake K.
This was a hard project to do. We had to use different tools and tin. i mostly used pop cans and a tin can that i just cut scraps from. I liked this project when i was all done with it.
This art project was easy for me to do since I like working with metal. In this project we had to use pieces of tin to created something new. I created a dump truck out of ice trays and candy boxes. I enjoyed this project very much.

For this art project we had to find tin scraps and use our imagination to create something artsy. I created a Sail boat out of a license plate and some copper and metal scraps. This project was very fun. We also learned about the history of tin building in the US. - Molly S.
